The Nephrology and Hypertension team at Bareen International Hospital successfully diagnosed and treated a rare and tough case of difficult-to-treat hypertension.

Mr. A.K, a 54 year-old gentleman, has been struggling with uncontrolled hypertension for the past 10 years despite seeing many cardiologists and despite being on 5 different anti-hypertensive medications. His BP readings were reaching 190/110 mmHg most of the times, and his heart and kidneys were starting to feel the burden.

Dr. Rana Abou Mrad, specialist Nephrology & Hypertension, was able to diagnose a rare hormonal condition affecting both his adrenal glands that was causing his blood pressure to be uncontrolled. After proper treatment, the number of medications was significantly reduced and his blood pressure is back to the normal range. In some cases, hypertension can be secondary to other medical conditions. Timely diagnosis and proper treatment can sometimes be cure the condition and prevent injury to the vital organs like the heart, the brain and the kidneys.

In conclusion, contrary to what many usually believe, there are actually cases in which hypertension patients can be cured and the need of lifelong medication is eliminated.
